United States (US) singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray over an assault at a London nightclub in 2023, avoiding trial on more serious charges.

The 37-year-old entered the guilty plea at Southwark Crown Court on Friday in connection with an incident at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair on February 19, 2023.

Brown had previously denied charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, causing actual bodily harm, and possessing an offensive weapon, described as a tequila bottle.

Those charges have now been dropped. He will be sentenced on the affray charge on October 26, 2026.

Brown’s co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, a rapper known as Hoody Baby, also pleaded guilty to affray. Affray is an offence involving the use or threat of violence that causes another person to fear for their safety.

Brown, known for hits including ‘Loyal’, ‘Look At Me Now’ and ‘With You’, arrived at court wearing a beige suit and baseball cap, accompanied by security personnel. Fans gathered outside the court, playing his music, holding signs and cheering as he arrived.

As part of his bail conditions, Brown had earlier been ordered to pay a £5 million security fee, which allowed him to continue his world tour provided he surrendered his passport upon arrival in each country.

During a concert in Manchester last year, Brown joked about his brief time in custody following his arrest, thanking fans for their support.
