Nollywood filmmaker Iyabo Ojo announced on Monday that her latest cinematic release, ‘Return of Arinzo,’ has become the highest-grossing opening weekend film of the Easter holiday.
The sequel to the 2013 blockbuster earned a staggering N104.8m during its debut, setting new benchmarks at the Nigerian box office.
Ojo expressed her gratitude to fans on social media, noting that the film’s success was driven entirely by the overwhelming support of the audience.
FilmOne Entertainment, the movie’s distributor, confirmed the milestone and highlighted that Return of Arinzo also secured the title of the biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel.

The distributor attributed the record-breaking numbers to a deep connection between the story and West African viewers, who filled cinemas across the region.
The film revisits the themes of crime and personal transformation that made the original Yoruba production a hit over a decade ago.
The movie’s launch has also been a major topic of conversation online due to a viral interaction during its Lagos premiere involving stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.
Despite the social media buzz surrounding the red carpet drama, the film’s financial performance remains the primary headline.
With its strong start, industry analysts expect the production to maintain its momentum throughout the holiday season.
