Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has called on leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to use the Supreme Court judgment as a turning point to reunite the party and refocus ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Saturday through his media office and signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki advised the party leadership elected at the March 29, 2026, national convention to see the ruling as an opportunity to begin reconciliation and rebuilding efforts.

He said the court decision on Thursday, which invalidated the Ibadan convention, also supported his earlier position that the party should have adopted an interim arrangement to avoid prolonged legal disputes and internal tensions.

Saraki recalled that he had consistently maintained that the national convention in Ibadan should not have been held and that an interim arrangement would have helped prevent the current crisis.

He noted that he had communicated this position to party leaders and also restated it before a committee of elders led by Ambassador Hassan Adamu, the Wakili of Adamawa, during consultations.

He said that, following the Supreme Court verdict, there was now only one PDP and urged all members to unite and work towards strengthening the party across the country.

“There is now only one PDP, and we should all unite and work for the success of our party across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”

He added that discussions within the party should now prioritise rebuilding rather than blame, and suggested that those who had lost in court should view their return to the party as part of the reconciliation process.

Saraki also said the ruling had clarified the party’s leadership structure, noting that it effectively recognised the Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara-led National Working Committee in line with regulatory provisions.

He urged aggrieved members involved in legal disputes to return and help stabilise the party, describing the PDP as a viable platform for the 2027 elections.

“Once again, I call on our colleagues who have been in court for several months to retrace their steps. We should all try to see the bigger picture,” he said.

He further congratulated the National Working Committee and encouraged it to focus on building a united, disciplined party anchored on democratic principles and electoral success.
