United States tennis legend Serena Williams, who is staging a comeback nearly four years after retiring, will team up with Czech player Karolina Muchova in the doubles event at next week’s Berlin Open grass-court tournament.
Speaking at a press conference in Berlin on Saturday, Muchova said she was excited about the partnership, noting the rare opportunity to play alongside one of sport’s greatest athletes.
“We’re going to play doubles. I’m pretty excited about it, it doesn’t happen every day that such an amazing athlete, not only in tennis but overall in sports, asks you to play tennis with her. I hope it’s going to be fun,” Muchova said.

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, retired after the 2022 US Open but has recently returned to competitive action.
Earlier this week, the 44-year-old played her first doubles match at Queen’s Club in London alongside Canadian Victoria Mboko, before Mboko got a knee injury that forced their withdrawal from both singles and doubles events.
Muchová, 29, is currently ranked world number 10 and was runner-up at the 2023 French Open.
The Berlin Open is seen as a key warm-up tournament ahead of Wimbledon, scheduled for July 1-14.
