The United States (US) President Donald Trump has said that the Strait of Hormuz will be “completely open” from Friday, following a deal between Iran and the US to end the Middle East war that had limited shipping in the critical waterway.
Trump made the remarks on Monday at the start of bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of a G7 summit in France.
US officials also said on Monday that ships will move toll-free through the Strait of Hormuz under an Iran peace deal signed by President Donald Trump, and insisted that Tehran would have to fulfil its commitments before getting any economic benefits.

He said he did not believe much assistance would be needed to keep the strait open, after Britain and France proposed a joint naval mission.
“I don’t think we are going to need much help,” Trump said, adding that the waterway was “already partially opened,” although there was still “hunting” to ensure it was fully secured.
The US president also praised the deal made with Iran, saying “the main thing is Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.”
