The US military announced Tuesday that it successfully defeated a series of Iranian missile and drone attacks in the Gulf and conducted self-defence strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) also denied claims by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards that they had struck the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and a separate regional air base, labelling the Iranian claims entirely false.

CENTCOM confirmed that all Iranian attacks on American forces failed and reported no injuries to US personnel.

During the escalation, Iran launched several ballistic missiles toward regional neighbours, but every weapon failed to hit its intended target.

Two Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait fell short or broke apart en route, while US and Bahraini air defence forces immediately intercepted three missiles launched at Bahrain.

Kuwait’s military separately confirmed that its own air defences were actively intercepting hostile missile and drone attacks.

Additionally, the US military shot down three Iranian attack drones that targeted civilian mariners transiting regional waters.

In response to the threats, American forces launched strikes against an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island, located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran has effectively closed this key oil and gas shipping channel since its war with the US and Israel began in late February.

The Revolutionary Guards claimed they targeted the US military installations to avenge the Qeshm Island strike.

Earlier on Tuesday, US forces also fired a missile at a ship attempting to violate an American blockade, marking the sixth vessel Washington has forcibly halted since the blockade took effect on April 13.

These hostile actions threaten a fragile ceasefire that the United States and Iran have maintained since April 8.

Subsequent talks to establish a permanent peace have so far failed, and Tehran warned on Monday that Israel’s expanding military campaign in Lebanon risks ending the truce entirely.
