The Israeli military said on Saturday that it had detected missiles being launched from Iran, as Tehran pressed on with its retaliatory fire on the country after a US‑Israeli bombing campaign began at the end of February.
In a message on Telegram, the military stated that “Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat.” Responding units were reported to be engaging the incoming missiles as part of ongoing aerial defences.
This development comes amid a broader war between Iran and the United States and Israel, which shows little sign of slowing even more than five weeks after it began.

The conflict erupted on 28 February 2026 when US and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes on Iranian targets, including air strikes across Tehran and other strategic sites. Those operations were described by Israeli officials as part of an effort to degrade Iran’s military capabilities and eliminate threats to Israel’s security.
Iran has responded with multiple waves of ballistic missiles and drones at Israeli territory, and at times at US bases and Gulf Arab allies. Even though Israel’s air defences have intercepted many missiles, some projectiles have reached Israeli towns and cities, causing casualties and damage.
Officials on both sides have issued strong statements: Iran has vowed to continue retaliatory attacks, while US leaders have promised sustained military pressure, threatening extensive strikes on Iranian infrastructure.
Regional repercussions
The conflict’s effects have not been limited to Israel and Iran. Missile and drone strikes have also hit neighbouring countries and US positions in the Gulf, and there have been reports of escalating regional tensions involving other actors aligned with Iran.
Global concerns have grown over the humanitarian impact and potential for wider escalation. Major powers and international organisations have called for restraint and diplomatic efforts, but for now the fighting continues with high levels of military activity on both sides.
