The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the lists and personal details of candidates contesting the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 12, 2026, INEC said the new deadline has been moved from Saturday, July 11, 2026, to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The electoral body said the decision followed an appeal from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which requested additional time for political parties that were unable to complete uploading their candidates’ names and personal information within the initial timeline.
According to INEC, the extension is part of efforts to promote wider participation in the electoral process while ensuring compliance with existing legal provisions.
“The decision to extend was based on appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council, on behalf of political parties who were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the scheduled timeline,” the commission said.

INEC added that the adjustment reflects its commitment to maintaining an inclusive electoral process without moving beyond the limits set by law.
“The extension underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity in its practices, while acting within the ambit of the law,” the statement noted.
The commission has urged political parties to use the additional window to complete all outstanding submissions before the revised deadline expires.
The submission of candidate lists is a key stage in preparations for the 2027 general elections, as INEC continues to implement its revised timetable and schedule of activities ahead of the polls.
Political parties are expected to ensure that all required candidate information is uploaded accurately within the new timeframe to avoid missing the opportunity afforded by the extension.
