Tinubu made the remarks in a message shared on his X handle on Wednesday to mark Hausa Day at the historic Daura Palace.

“The Hausa language, without doubt, has flourished and has become a major language of unity and commerce across the world,” Tinubu said.

The President congratulated the Hausa community on the annual celebration.

“I congratulate the vast Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace today,” he said.

Hausa Day, also known as World Hausa Day or Ranar Hausa, is observed every August 26.

The celebration began as a social media initiative by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to promote Hausa online and highlight its cultural importance.

It has since grown into celebrations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.

Although Hausa Day has gained international attention, the United Nations (UN) has not formally recognised it.

Hausa remains one of Nigeria’s major languages and is among the most widely spoken languages in Africa.
