British-born legendary actor Tim Curry, who played more than 200 roles throughout his career, has died at 80.
Curry died on Tuesday night, according to TMZ.
An LAPD representative told PEOPLE that officers responded to a call at a North Hollywood residence around 11:20 p.m.
Police later conducted a death investigation involving a man in his 80s. No foul play is suspected.
Curry was best known for his roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Clue, Muppet Treasure Island, and Congo.
The actor suffered a stroke on July 13, 2012, at the age of 66, which left lasting effects on his health.
In a 2013 interview with CBS News, Curry recalled that he needed encouragement to seek medical help after experiencing the stroke.
“It was so strange. I was actually having a massage, and the guy who was giving me a massage said, ‘I’m worried about you. I think we should call a doctor.’ I felt fine. I had no symptoms that I was aware of. I wasn’t in pain.”
He said the experience frightened him because it reminded him of his father.
“I thought immediately of my dad. So, I was scared.”
The stroke resulted in Curry undergoing brain surgery and rehabilitation to regain his speech. He also experienced facial paralysis.
Reflecting on his recovery, Curry said: “That was very weird. I hated not being able to speak.”
Despite the effects of the stroke, Curry continued working on various projects, although he maintained a relatively low public profile in the years that followed.
In September 2025, he made a rare public appearance at an event at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles marking the 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Curry’s portrayal of Dr Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult classic became one of the defining performances of his career and cemented his status as a celebrated actor across film, television and theatre.
