The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi, to Plateau State following an attack on Bin’per community in Mangu Local Government Area that claimed about 24 lives.
AIG Dankombo F. Morris conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the community on Thursday, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police for Plateau State, CP Ayoade Faniyan, and other senior police officers, according to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu.
The attack, which also left several people injured and property destroyed, prompted the police to review measures being implemented to strengthen security and prevent further incidents.
Addressing affected residents, the AIG conveyed the IGP’s deep concern over the incident and condemned the attack as “barbaric and unacceptable.”
He expressed sympathy to the families of those killed and assured the community of the Force’s commitment to apprehending the perpetrators.
Morris disclosed that additional personnel and operational assets had been deployed to strengthen security in the affected area, while efforts were being intensified to restore confidence and enable residents to safely return to their homes and livelihoods.
During the visit, Morris paid a courtesy call on Governor Caleb Mutfwang, where he conveyed the IGP’s condolences to the government and people of the state.
The governor expressed concern over the attack and reaffirmed the state government’s support for ongoing security efforts to apprehend the perpetrators, prevent further attacks and restore lasting peace.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to working with the Plateau State government, other security agencies and affected communities to strengthen security and ensure the safety of residents across the state.
