President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her election as President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing her victory as a historic milestone for the legal profession and a triumph for merit and gender inclusion.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence marked a watershed moment for the Bar and reflected growing recognition of women’s contributions to nation-building and the administration of justice.
Tinubu said the senior advocate’s “remarkable career, distinguished by integrity, professionalism, and commitment to justice, has earned her the confidence of her colleagues across the country.”
He expressed confidence that her leadership would strengthen the legal profession by defending the rule of law and advancing reforms aimed at improving access to justice.
According to the President, “Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence reflects the growing recognition of women’s invaluable contributions to nation-building and the administration of justice.”
He added that her leadership would further strengthen the legal profession by upholding the rule of law and promoting reforms that enhance access to justice for all Nigerians.
Tinubu also urged the NBA president-elect to work with key stakeholders to advance judicial reforms and preserve the constitutional role of the legal profession.
“I urge you to reach out to the other contestants, unify the Bar and make efforts to correct issues that arose during your election,” the President said.
He further encouraged her to collaborate with stakeholders to advance judicial reforms, protect the sanctity of the constitution, and sustain the legal profession’s role as a vital pillar of a democratic society.
Congratulating the president-elect on her victory, Tinubu said her election demonstrated that Nigerian women could attain the highest positions through excellence and hard work.
“I extend my hearty congratulations to the President-elect of the NBA for her victory. As the first elected female president of the Association of Lawyers in Nigeria, Mrs Badejo-Okusanya has made history.
“She has once again shown that our women can attain any heights in pursuit of excellence in their careers and ambitions, both in the private sector and in public service.”
The President wished Badejo-Okusanya a successful tenure and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the NBA to deepen democratic governance, promote justice and strengthen the country’s legal institutions.
“I wish you a successful tenure and service to the legal profession and our country at large,” he said.
