Two US Soldiers Missing in Morocco

Two United States service members participating in the African Lion 2026 military exercise have been reported missing near the Cap Draa Training Area near the city of Tan Tan, Morocco, the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said on Sunday.

“Two U.S. service members participating in African Lion 2026 were reported missing near the Cap Draa Training Area, near the city of Tan Tan, Morocco, May 2, 2026,” AFRICOM said on its website.

The command said US, Moroccan, and other African Lion assets immediately initiated coordinated search-and-rescue operations, including ground, air, and maritime assets.

“The incident remains under investigation and the search is ongoing,” the statement read.

“Our focus is on the service members involved and their families. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.”

African Lion 2026 is an annual multinational military exercise hosted by Morocco and involving multiple partner nations.
