Obi Welcomes Oyo Rescue, Demands Safer Schools

Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has welcomed the safe rescue of kidnapped schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, describing the development as a moment of relief and thanksgiving.

“I sincerely thank all those whose tireless efforts made their freedom possible, especially the security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes,” he said in a post on X on Saturday.

While celebrating the rescue, the former governor said the incident should serve as a reminder of the urgent need to strengthen Nigeria’s security system and prevent future attacks on vulnerable citizens.

“No child should ever have to endure such trauma,” Obi said, adding that repeated cases of schoolchildren being kidnapped show the need for greater protection of lives and property.

He stressed that Nigerian children should have access to education in a safe environment, noting, “Our children deserve to learn in an atmosphere of safety, not fear.”

Obi congratulated the rescued children, their families, schools, and Nigerians who shared in the relief following their return, while calling for sustained efforts to build a country where students can pursue education without the threat of violence or abduction.
