Controlling Stray Cows Not Our Job

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has clarified that controlling stray cows in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is not part of its statutory responsibilities.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, said while addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday that the responsibility falls under the relevant Ministry or Department of Environment.

He explained that the police would only intervene when a cow is linked to an offence, property damage, crop destruction or trespass.

“If that case is reported to the nearest police station, we will commence the investigation immediately,” Iniedu said.

The FPRO stressed that the police already handles numerous complaints and responsibilities, adding that searching for or controlling stray cows is not among them.

“The Nigerian Police is saddled with a lot of complaints, and going out to look for cows is not one of our responsibilities,” he said.

Iniedu urged residents whose property has been damaged or trespassed upon by cattle to report such cases to the nearest police station for appropriate action.
