Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua Reno Omokri has said artificial intelligence may replace professionals such as doctors and lawyers but cannot replicate the warmth, spontaneity and “goofy” nature of human entertainers like popular content creator Peller.
In a post on X on Saturday, Omokri argued that AI could never replace someone like Peller, known for his playful and often silly antics, because AI lacks the human qualities that make such entertainers relatable.
“Let me shock you with a statement of fact: Artificial intelligence will replace doctors before it can replace someone like Peller. Many people accuse Peller of being goofy. And they are right. In fact, he can be downright silly. Yet that boy has an X factor that makes him the centre of gravity amongst many celebrities. Be patient. I’m going somewhere,” Omokri wrote.
Omokri said AI cannot replicate human spontaneity, stand-up comedy or improvisation and that these qualities are rooted in childhood traits many adults lose over time.
“That spontaneity and wacky playfulness are things all of us had in childhood, but most of us lost as we became adults,” he said.
He cited the use of AI in airports, driverless cars, music and movies, noting that AI now produces songs and screenplays that rival human creations. He also claimed AI had recently defeated a lawyer at a trial.
“In California, my friends and I take driverless cars on trips. Uber drivers and regular taxis will be completely eradicated in fifteen years,” he said.
Omokri urged parents not to pressure children who do not excel academically, arguing that the world has changed and traditional career paths may no longer be as valuable.
“Most of what we had to study for has been solved by AI. AI does accountancy better than accountants and engineering better than engineers,” he said.
He said entertainers like Peller have what AI cannot replicate: “warmth, innocence, purity and the ability not to take himself seriously.”
“Olodo boys with such traits will in this day and age of technology that is wizardry, command as much, if not more value than a PhD who has been made obsolete by AI,” Omokri said.
Omokri cited a quote by John Lennon to illustrate his point: “When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy.’ They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”
“From that perspective, Peller understands life more than many PhD holders and Professors,” Omokri said.
“As long as you have a healthy, happy child, you and they can add everything else to their life later.”
