France winger Bradley Barcola has completed a blockbuster move from Paris Saint-Germain to Liverpool, becoming the second-most expensive signing in the Premier League club’s history.
The 23-year-old joined Liverpool on Monday in a deal that could eventually be worth £124 million. A source close to PSG told AFP that the transfer is worth “€125 million plus €20 million in easily achievable bonuses”.
Only Alexander Isak has cost Liverpool more, following his £125 million move from Newcastle United last year. Barcola’s deal also represents the highest transfer fee ever paid for a player from Ligue 1.
His arrival continues Liverpool’s heavy investment in attacking talent. Barcola is the third forward costing more than £100 million to join the club in two years, following Isak and Florian Wirtz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for around £100 million.
Barcola, who has signed what Liverpool described as a “long-term deal”, said completing the move was a proud moment after months of speculation over his future.
“It’s a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I’m very happy,” he told the club’s website.
The France international also identified winning the Premier League as one of his major ambitions at Anfield.
“I hope to achieve very big things,” Barcola said. “First of all, winning the Premier League – it’s one of my biggest dreams in my life.”
Barcola arrives with an impressive record from his time in Paris. After joining PSG from Lyon for £38.6 million in 2023, he scored 39 goals in 152 appearances and won three consecutive Ligue 1 titles. He was also part of the PSG squad that claimed back-to-back Champions League trophies.
Despite competition from Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue for attacking places at PSG, Barcola remained an important member of the squad. He also scored three times for France during their run to the semi-finals of the recent World Cup.
Liverpool have strengthened their wide attacking options following Mohamed Salah’s departure at the end of last season. Spain winger Victor Munoz has already arrived from Osasuna, but Barcola’s record-breaking Ligue 1 transfer represents another major investment as Liverpool reshape their attack.
