A late-night fire has destroyed several shops at Pumpum Nuri Water Site in Geidam, Yobe State, causing millions of naira in losses.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Yobe State Command, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The statement, signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Bala Garba, said several shops were destroyed.
The fire reportedly started around 11pm on Monday while residents were indoors.

It razed several shops at the water site before it was eventually brought under control.
“The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is yet to be determined,” the statement said.
The NSCDC said traders and other business owners whose shops were affected suffered significant financial losses.
It said the losses were estimated to run into millions of naira, while assessment of the damage was ongoing.
The corps said no lives were lost in the incident.
“No casualties were reported at the time of this report,” it stated.
