Rivers Assembly Probes PAMO University Funds

The Rivers State House of Assembly constituted a seven-member ad hoc committee on Friday to investigate all state funds disbursed to PAMO University of Medical Sciences since its establishment in 2017.

Speaker Martin Amaewhule appointed Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol to lead the panel under powers granted by Section 128 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution.

House Committee on Information Chairman Enemi George confirmed that the inquiry will determine the exact financial support given to the institution and audit whether administrators used the funds for their intended purposes.

The investigative panel will also verify the total number and specific identities of students who received state-funded scholarships at the university.

Lawmakers formed the committee after refusing to approve a proposed 6 billion naira allocation for the institution in the state’s 2026 budget.

Former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili, who currently serves as pro-chancellor, founded the private medical school.

Panel members Silvanus Nwankwo, Lemchi Nyeche, Henrietta Loolo, Peter Abbey, Napoleon Ukalikpe, and Emilia Amadi must submit their final report to the Assembly by September 30, 2026.
