United States (US) President Donald Trump has said the US and Iran are moving closer to an agreement to end the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Speaking in a phone interview with CBS on Saturday, Trump said progress was being made but warned of severe consequences if talks fail.
He said that failure to reach an agreement could lead to a situation in which “no country will be hit as hard” as the consequences Iran would face.
In a separate interview with Axios, Trump described the chances of a deal as “50/50,” while also issuing a strong warning that the US could respond with overwhelming force if negotiations collapse.
Iran meanwhile on saturday, said it was working on a 14-point framework proposal for a possible agreement, though officials acknowledged that significant differences remain.

The US State Department, through Secretary of State Marco Rubio, said developments in the talks could be announced later in the day, although no outcome was guaranteed.
Axios also stated that Trump was expected to hold calls with Gulf leaders and meet senior officials including negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The discussions come as regional tensions continue to rise, with Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir reportedly engaging Iranian officials in diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.
Trump also abruptly announced on Friday that he would be skipping his son’s wedding this weekend due to “circumstances pertaining to government.”
