Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has prepared a possible criminal complaint against FIFA President Gianni Infantino over a failed $4.2 billion investment deal.
The European football governing body said it has filed documents in a Manhattan court seeking evidence from Thrive Capital Management, a New York investment fund founded by Joshua Kushner.
UEFA also asked a court in southern Florida to authorise discovery from FIFA, which has offices in Coral Gables, near Miami.
Thrive Capital and Kushner had been expected to serve as anchor investors in a proposed deal that would have given FIFA $4.2 billion for a 20% stake in a subsidiary managing its commercial events, including the World Cup.

UEFA lawyers said the organisation was considering criminal proceedings against Infantino and other FIFA officials in Switzerland over possible financial mismanagement.
“UEFA and its counsel are contemplating a Swiss criminal proceeding against Infantino and possibly other FIFA officials for criminal mismanagement under Article 158 of the Swiss Criminal Code,” the lawyers said in a 56-page document seen by The Associated Press.
The filing also suggested that the $4.2 billion valuation could have been a “fraudulently off-market price promoted by Infantino for his own benefit.”
Infantino abandoned the investment plan on August 1 after strong opposition from football leaders worldwide, including UEFA.
The proposed deal has now triggered legal scrutiny over how FIFA valued its future World Cup revenues and how it handled the investment plan.
