The Benue State Government says it is engaging the Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED), security agencies and other stakeholders to restore normal electricity supply following a disconnection that has plunged parts of the state into darkness.
The government admitted to the hardship the power interruption has caused residents, including families, traders, students, hospitals and small businesses.
It said Governor Hyacinth Alia has directed that the matter be resolved without delay.
“On the events that led to the disconnection, the Government has stated its position clearly and maintains that the allegations made against it are unfounded,” the statement said, in a statement issued Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Solomon Iorpev.

“At the same time, we condemn violence against any person or institution in Benue State. Anyone who unlawfully harms or intimidates workers, or damages property, will face the full weight of the law.”
The government said security agencies had been directed to launch a full and impartial investigation into the matter.
“We urge JED and the electricity workers’ union to act in the interest of the millions of innocent Benue citizens who are suffering,” it said.
“Government will give the assurances needed for staff to work safely, and we ask that supply be restored while any disagreements are resolved through dialogue.”
The government appealed to residents for calm and patience, urging them not to take the law into their own hands or disrupt public peace, and to protect electricity installations and report suspicious activity to security agencies.
“We will keep you informed as the situation develops. Benue State remains committed to the welfare, safety and dignity of all its people,” the statement said.
