Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued an abducted man, arrested 10 suspects during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout and recovered a locally made firearm and suspected illicit drugs in separate operations across the state.
The operations were carried out in Agbor, Abbi and Oghara on September 4, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
In Agbor, police operatives rescued a 60-year-old man who had been kidnapped after engaging his abductors in Alisime Village.
The command said operatives of the Agbor Division, acting on intelligence following an earlier report of the abduction, mobilised to the community alongside forest guards and local security personnel at about 6 p.m.
The operatives reportedly engaged the kidnappers and rescued the victim unharmed.
The suspects fled into the surrounding bush with what police described as suspected gunshot injuries.
Police recovered a mobile phone and an ATM card from the area, and launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation later that night, operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit in Ozoro raided a brothel in Abbi, where a suspect wanted in connection with an arson case in Owhelogbo Community was reportedly hiding.
The raid led to the arrest of 10 suspects, comprising seven women and three men.
Police also recovered substances identified as Tramadol, Swinol, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The command said the suspects were being profiled and that those found culpable would be prosecuted.
In Oghara, operatives of the police division, working with a civilian anti-cult group, also recovered a locally made cut-to-size gun after responding to a reported scuffle involving about eight persons along Ibori Road.
Police said the suspects fled upon sighting the patrol team, while one of them, identified by the alias “Highest,” allegedly discarded the firearm.
The gun was recovered, and efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Erale, commended the operatives and other security personnel involved in the operations and directed them to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Erale said the command would continue to strengthen intelligence-led operations, raid identified criminal hideouts and sustain patrols across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible information that could help prevent and detect crime.
