Tinubu Releases N515 Million to Calabar Fire Victims

The Nigerian government approved 515 million naira in relief funds on Friday for business owners affected by the recent fire at the SPAR shopping mall in Calabar, Cross River State.

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu announced the intervention during her visit to the state, confirming that President Bola Tinubu released 450 million naira to be divided among 18 affected entrepreneurs.

She also presented 50 million naira to the governor’s wife to support local women’s groups and distributed an additional 15 million naira to women who welcomed her delegation.

The August 22 blaze destroyed property worth billions of naira, and the relief package aims to help victims rebuild their livelihoods quickly.

During her visit, the First Lady also commissioned the South-South phase of the National Community Foodbank Programme, an initiative designed to curb food insecurity and reduce malnutrition among vulnerable households.

Cross River State Governor Bassey Edet Otu commended President Tinubu and the First Lady for the timely financial aid and praised the Nigerian government for choosing Cross River to host the regional food security scheme.
