Video: Presidential Team Heads to Oyo Abduction Site

A high-powered presidential delegation has arrived in southwest Nigeria following the abduction of about 46 pupils and teachers from three schools two weeks ago, an official said on Sunday.

The delegation arrived in Ogbomoso en route to the villages of Esiele and Yawota, Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications Sunday Dare announced.

The team is led by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Inspector General of Police IGP Tunde Disu, Minister of Defence General Christopher Musa, Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe, and Dare himself.

“President Tinubu since set in motion series of coordinated efforts to free the victims and arrest the kidnappers,” Dare said in a post on X.

The raid occurred on May 15, when gunmen on motorcycles attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The abducted include pupils aged two to 16 and seven teachers.

One teacher, Joel Adesiyan, was killed during the attack. Another teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was later beheaded in captivity. The principal of Community High School, Esiele, Rachael Alamu, has appeared in a video pleading with the government to negotiate with the kidnappers rather than use force.

The abduction has sparked outrage and protests by parents and the public, who have called on authorities to intensify rescue operations.
