The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed Justine Madugu, the Super Falcons’ head coach, and the rest of his technical crew from their positions.

The federation announced the decision on Monday, directing all members of the technical crew to step down immediately.

The NFF Executive Committee, however, did not give a reason for the decision.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the federation said in a brief statement.

The decision comes after a difficult 2026 campaign for the Super Falcons, who failed to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria started their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a defeat to debutants Malawi, who went on to reach the final before losing 3-0 to Cameroon on Sunday.

The Super Falcons were eliminated in the WAFCON quarter-finals after losing to Cameroon, denying them an automatic World Cup ticket.

Nigeria later had another chance to qualify through a playoff against South Africa but suffered another defeat, leaving the team facing another route to the 2027 World Cup.

Madugu has led the Super Falcons’ technical setup alongside his assistants and other backroom staff.

The NFF appointed Madugu and Edwin Okon to the technical crew in November 2021 as part of efforts to restructure the team.

The latest decision adds to a difficult period for Nigerian football, after the Super Eagles also failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles finished second in their qualifying group before losing to DR Congo 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw following extra time in the African playoff final.
